Les Bernots is a small hamlet at the head of a small valley approached by a single track road in the southern Aude. Our house, in an elevated position has attractive rooftop views that extend over the neighbouring fields and vineyards to the soaring foothills of the Pyrenees in the distance.

Due to this elevated position on the hillside, the house is very private, not being overlooked by anyone except the occasional hiker or farmer from higher up the valley and it is this elevated position that enables such spectacular views from every window and point of the property.

Les Bernots also has an enviable location with a wealth of charm, beauty and history within striking distance of the house.

The highlight must be the Cite of Carcassonne, some 45 minutes away; yet the amazingly preserved medieval bastide town of Mirepoix (don't miss the Monday market) and  the mystical Rennes le Chateau are equally fascinating and will reward a day spent exploring them. Spectacular Cathar castles, the awe inspiring Gorges de Galamus and the breathtaking Grotte de Limoussis should not be missed.

Venture a bit further afield and the Mediterranean coast and Perpignan, tax free Andorra, northern Spain and the Costa Brava are all close enough to justify a day out.

For the more active there are many well marked walking routes of all grades of intensity, fishing in nearby Lac Montbel and canoeing and kayaking on the Aude at Quillan.
